Breast Reduction

Breast augmentation surgery is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure performed in the US. However, for some women, the opposite treatment is their goal. Large breasts can actually cause medical issues for women. Common symptoms include upper back and lower neck pain, shoulder grooving from bra straps, rashes in the breast folds, and interfence with daily activities.
Unfortunately there is no non-surgical way to reduce breasts and so for most women, in order to relieve their symptoms, they need to undergo breast reduction surgery. The procedure is typically done on an outpatient basis and the results are dramatic with a very high satisfaction rate. The final incisions go around the areola, down, and in most cases underneath the breast. These are called upside down T or anchor incisions. With every breast reduction there is also a breast lift because women wit very large breasts typically have ptotic or droopy breasts as well.
There is one alternative to traditional breast reduction surgery and that is what I call “Scarless Breast Reduction.” I will discuss this procedure in a future post.
