Palomar Icon LaserWritten by Dr. Babak Dadvand
The Palomar Icon laser by Cynosure is an innovative aesthetic machine that treats a variety of skin care issues with just one piece of equipment. It quickly became one of Dr. Dadvand’s most popular treatments, for women and men who want to look great with going under the knife.
In his Beverly Hills practice, Palomar Icon has both a fractional laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) technology. In addition, it comes with several attachments that allow it to provide solutions for a wide variety of patients by reducing wrinkles, removing hair and improving acne. The Palomar Icon is also able to perform treatments like scar reduction, fractional skin resurfacing, vascular and pigmentation treatments, and photorejuvenation. This highly effective skin care technology is popular amongst plastic surgeons and patients since multiple conditions can be treated at once with the Icon.
Providing the Best Results
The Palomar Icon uses a Skintel Melanin Reader, a unique technology that enables it to detect your skin’s melanin density. This allows it to expertly analyze your skin tone, making sure that the level of laser being applied is specific to you. Although the technology itself is great, the operator can make your sessions less or more effective. A highly experienced doctor such as double board certified plastic surgeon Babak Dadvand, MD takes a holistic view of your skin and face structure and uses Icon in combination with other non-surgical treatments to reach your desired goals.
The Icon’s Fractional Laser
The fractional laser is ideal for patients looking to rejuvenate their skin by skin resurfacing and it is comparable to Fraxel re:store. It is often used to address acne scars and shrink large pores. This treatment will leave skin feeling and looking more balanced overall. Furthermore, the fractional laser function can help treat patients that want to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, enhance skin texture and make it glow.
The Icon’s Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
This Palomar Icon treatment is ideal for patients that have experienced skin discoloration or a change in skin texture due to damage from the sun, aging, acne o rosacea. The treatment works best on patients with a pale to moderate skin tone or olive skin complexion, due to the fact that one of the primary objectives is melanin. The goal of this treatment is to improve skin texture and address any skin discoloration.
What a Palomar Icon Treatment is like
The Palomar Icon technology has a built-in cooling system, which helps protect the skin during treatment in addition to providing a more comfortable procedure process. However, the discomfort level of a Palomar Icon procedure is based on each individual treatment and the patient’s personal tolerance for pain. Although a topical anesthetic is sometimes applied to the skin before treatment, no further analgesic is typically necessary. The procedure begins with Dr. Dadvand and the patient wearing protective eyewear while he starts by placing a handheld device onto the skin. The device has a smooth glass surface that emits light or energy and is used with a method called “stamping”. This means the laser is first used in one area of the skin and then is placed onto another area without overlapping the previously treated skin. A snapping or zapping sound might be heard and the patient may experience a fast burning sensation. After the treatment, a cool compress may be applied for a few minutes to calm any tenderness in the area. Finally, moisturizer and sunscreen are applied at the end of the treatment.
