Gynecomastia Surgery for Out of Town Patients

Posted on Tuesday, July 15th, 2014 by Dr. Babak Dadvand

As a specialist in gynecomastia surgery I see and perform this surgery on a routine bases. One of the interesting things I have been noticing is the number of patients who are coming to see and be treated by me from outside of Los Angeles. Gynecomastia is a relatively common issue affecting men of all ages and sizes. Whether you are from California, Arizona, or as far away as Florida, it is important to be treated by someone qualified and experienced in this surgery.

The main difference in treating a patient from out of town or out of state is in the pre-planning. Typically I will review photographs and have a phone consultation with patients prior to their deciding to travel to Los Angeles. This is very helpful for both the patient and me. They can ask me any questions, but I can also get a sense of what caused their gynecomastia. Now, while there is no substitute for an in person consultation and physical examination, the pre consult is very helpful in answering a lot of questions.

In many instances the pre consultation is so helpful the patient decides to move forward with surgery. This is where my fantastic staff is so instrumental. They will then coordinate the in person consultation, the preoperative testing that needs to be completed, the surgical scheduling, as well as other important things such as hotel suggestions that are affordable and close to the office.

For an out of town patient the key to a smooth experience is planning.  My staff and I make sure that the only thing you have to worry about is what to pack. Surgery is stressful enough for most patients, let alone being in a different city, so it is important that we impart a sense of calmness for our out of town patients so they can focus on their recovery.
