Breast Massage

I routinely use breast massage in all of my breast implant patients, whether it is a first time augmentation, a revision augmentation, or an augmentation with a breast lift. The advantage of breast massage, especially in primary breast augmentation, is two fold. One, it “stretches” the pectoralis muscle, allowing the implant to settle into its pocket more quickly. Initially, in subpectoral or under the muscle breast augmentation, the implant may seem high and the upper part of the breast to be too full compared to the lower breast. This is partly because the pectoralis muscle is not used to having anything under it and so needs time to accommodate the implant and relax so to speak.
The second advantage of breast massages is that it keeps the capsule around the implant soft and pliable. This is important in that a capsular contracture can distort the breast and will most likely need revision surgery to correct.
Breast massages are very quick and easy to do. It takes less time than brushing your teeth, which is one reason why I implement it in my practice. To learn more about breast implants and breast massage visit my website at drdadvandplasticsurgery.com.
