The Mommy Makeover

Plastic surgery is filled with catchy names for different procedures. One of the most popular names is the “Mommy Makeover.” We live in a society enamored by the idea of the makeover. There are countless shows making over people, homes, cars, and even pets. But what is a Mommy Makeover and is it something that may benefit you?
Well, the term “Mommy Makeover” refers to rejuvenating the two body parts of a woman that tend to suffer the most during pregnancy: the breasts and the tummy. During pregnancy most women experience significant weight gain and stretching of the skin in these two areas. The changes in the breasts are exacerbated even more if she breastfeeds.
Once the baby is born, a woman may lose a significant amount of weight which could lead to loose belly skin and a bulge due to the muscles not coming together as they were before pregnancy (this is called a rectus diastasis). No amount of diet and exercise can tighten loose skin and correct a rectus diastasis. This is where a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, can make a significant improvement. In addition to the tummy tuck, some form of breast rejuvenation is also performed. Some women require only a breast augmentation to correct the post-partum deflation their breasts experienced. Others require a breast lift, with or without implants, because their breasts have become ptotic, or droopy.
This combination of breast surgery with abdominal surgery is referred to as a Mommy Makeover and is a fantastic way to give a woman her body back, a just reward for bringing life into this world!
