Male breast surgery
Male breast surgery has become a common procedure for young as well as adult men who want to reduce their enlarge breasts in the Los Angeles area. The condition, known as gynecomastia, can cause a significant deal of shame, embarrassment and discomfort amongst its victims. Although slightly enlarged breasts can be reduced by male breast reduction exercise, diet and training, gynecomastia surgery is the only way to achieve a flat chest for many men.
What to expect after male breast surgery
While discomfort after any cosmetic surgery procedure can be expected, the type of discomfort you feel after male breast surgery will depend on the type of procedure you received. Gynecomastia surgery ranges from liposuction surgery to the removal of excess glandular tissue (or both). In certain cases, excess skin is also removed.
After male breast surgery, you will have an expected amount of bruising, soreness and swelling on your chest (so you won’t be able to see the full effects of your gynecomastia surgery immediately). The majority of the swelling will go away a few days after the surgery, but the last 20% of the swelling will only disappear after a couple of weeks.
Your gynecomastia surgeon may advise you to steer clear of heavy lifting and weight training for a few weeks after the male breast reduction surgery, but patients are advised to start moving around as soon as possible after the surgery (this helps with blood circulation, which will also help the swelling go down). Patients will also be advised to avoid alcohol and smoking (which can disrupt the healing process after any type of surgery).
A good tip is to make sure you have somebody to drive you home after the surgery because you may still experience the effects of the anesthesia and you might find it too uncomfortable to drive. Take care of mundane household tasks beforehand so that you aren’t stuck with these duties when you get home. Also get a close friend or relative to help you with household chores so that you don’t have to do any heavy lifting during the first few days of recovery.
