Implant Placements
Your breast implant placement can affect the overall look of your breast augmentation surgery. Many women are focussed on decisions regarding the size of your breast implants, whether they are going to have saline or silicone breast implants and where the incisions from the surgery will be, but it is also important to understand why certain locations for the implant work better for certain situations.
During your breast augmentation surgery , the pocket can either be placed over or under the muscle. This muscle is known as the pectoral muscle and your preferences, coupled with the decision of the plastic surgeon, will determine what would work best for you.
It is a common misconception that the placement of your implants will contribute to wrinkles or rippling of the implants, which is not the case. Actually going over the muscle increases incidence of rippling over time. The major contributors to this effect is related to implant size and whether you have chosen saline or silicone implants. There are advantages and disadvantages to both instances and your pre-surgery breast size is one of the contributing factors to where the breast implants can be placed.
Why certain locations for the implant work better for certain situations.
- When your breast placements should be placed under the muscle: Small-chested women may have to get the implants placed under the pectoral muscle. When the breast implant is under the muscle, more padding is provided which will help create a more natural look because the upper edge of the implant will be less visible. This is also a good option for women with thinner skin.
- When your breast placements can be placed above the muscle: If you have enough breast tissue and your skin isn’t particularly thin, you will most likely be an ideal candidate for having the breast implant placed above the muscle.
- The dual -plane option: Experienced plastic surgeons are generally most concerned with avoiding an over-operated look and ensuring your breasts look natural. The dual option, where the bottom part of the breast tissue covers the implant and the top of the implant is under the muscle, is often the ideal approach.
