Breast Implants

Breast implants are common these days and many women have benefitted from this type of cosmetic surgery. Although the number of women receiving breast augmentation continues to rise, the operation is still a surgical procedure which has its own set of risks and potential complications.

Unlike most other surgical procedures, a breast augmentation provides you with a number of considerations and possible options to choose from. Although your personal preferences are of utmost importance, aspects such as your body type, how much breast tissue you have and where the implant will be placed influence many of your options.

Breast implant considerations

  • Shape of the breast implants : A breast implant can either be round or in the shape of a teardrop. The round breast implant is the most popular choice. The benefit of a round implant is that it can create a rounder look on the upper quadrant of the breast and the illusion of a breast lift (which is great for creating a cleavage). An implant with a teardrop shape will create a more natural contour and is advisable for women with a smaller frame.
  • Implant fill : A breast implant can either be filled with silicone gel or with a saline solution. Most plastic surgeons use both methods and there are a range of advantages and disadvantages for both options.
  • Implant placement : Women with an adequate amount of breast tissue can have the implant placed on top of the muscle, but women with less breast tissue will often have to get the implant placed underneath the muscle in order to provide enough padding for a natural look and feel. There is also a dual option, where the upper part of the implant is covered by muscle and the lower part is covered by breast tissue.
  • Where the incision will be : If you are getting a silicone implant, your incision options are limited to the areola and inframammary incision and if you have chosen a saline gel-filled implant, you can choose between the areola, inframmamary, the armpit or a bellybutton incision.

When you book a consultation with Dr. Dadvand, a licensed plastic surgeon in Los Angeles, you will get a full physical examination. After this exam, Dr. Dadvand will discuss your various options with you so that you can make the right decisions regarding your breast implants.
