Areola incision

Getting the breasts you have always wanted via breast implants requires a number of decisions, such as the size and shape of your breast, whether you are going to have silicone gel or saline gel-filled implants and where the incision for your breast implants will be made.

The areola incision is one of the most popular choices of women who get breast augmentation. This incision is made at the edge of the areola where your normal skin meets the darker skin of your nipple. The biggest advantage of having the incision made here is that the scar fades to a color very similar to that of the areola.

Another main advantage of the areola incision is that the plastic surgeon will have more control of the breast placement because he or she will be working very close to the placement area (as opposed to a bellybutton incision, for example). If you choose the areola incision, you will also have more flexibility in choosing whether you want a saline or silicone breast implant (the bellybutton and armpit incision are limited to saline implants) and the implant can also be placed above or below the muscle with this incision option.

Areola Breast Augmentation Incision

When you get an areola breast augmentation incision , you will notice that a protective sleeve has been placed over the breast during your surgery. This sleeve protects the wound from any infections and bacteria.

Women who are ideal candidates for the areola breast augmentation incision are those who are also having a breast lift (mastopexy). The reason for this is because an incision will be made by the areola for a breast lift anyway, and the surgeon can use this same incision to insert your implant, instead of making another incision elsewhere and having two scars instead of one.

After a full physical exam, a qualified plastic surgeon will determine whether you are a candidate for an areola incision. The other options available include an incision at the fold of your breast, under your armpit or in your bellybutton.
